The San Francisco 49ers missed the playoffs last season after suffering an insufferable number of injuries to their key players. Unfortunately, the 2025 season has followed a similar story thus far.
However, the Niners have managed to stay afloat and stay within striking distance of the NFC West division title. There was hope that San Francisco would have star quarterback Brock Purdy back for Week Seven, but it wasn’t meant to be, according to one prominent insider around the league.
“49ers ruled out QB Brock Purdy (toe) and WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) for Sunday night’s game against the Falcons. 49ers QB Mac Jones starts again,” reported Adam Schefter of ESPN on Friday on Twitter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Purdy should ask Cousins about getting the bag and then getting benched. Because Jones is now better than him and Purdy should continue to ride the pine when healty,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“49ers switching gears. Purdy and Pearsall out, Mac Jones gets another shot to keep the offense ticking. Falcons better be ready,” someone else wrote.
“Mac just keeps getting thrown out there with no weapons. Meanwhile, he’s gonna go for 315 with Kendrick Bourne and Jake Tonges,” one fan predicted.
It’ll be interesting to see how Jones does in place of Purdy.
