It has been finalized, and former Washington Commanders halfback Brian Robinson Jr. is now a member of the San Franscio 49ers. A standout for the nation’s capital, and only embarking on his second NFL season, Robinson Jr.looks to be a catalyst for the Bay Area.
But what exactly would his role be? NFL spectators are used to seeing Robinson Jr. as the number one guy out on the field.
Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters,
“We brought him here to be our two back…Always been a big fan of Brian. Loved him coming out of college. He’s done really well going against him and we were pumped that he was available and we were pumped that we were able to get him,” after the preseason finale Saturday night.
It’s no secret that star running back Christian McCaffrey has battled injury throughout his career. Most recently, his unexpected Achilles injury last summer prevented him from playing most of the 2024-2025 season.
It seems as if the move for Robinson was a safety net for the organization. Another Mcaffrey injury most likely means another year without a Super Bowl push, something the 49ers can’t afford again.
Fans react to the trade news via Twitter
“Wow! This is huge, honestly. Probably the single name I’ve heard most from (the Commanders),” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“They’re gonna need him when CMC goes down for the season in week 3,” another fan added.
Critics and spectators are excited to see how Shanahan incorporates Robinson Jr.’s game into the San Fransciso playbook, while also keeping their main man happy.
