The Philadelphia Eagles ended the hopes of a three-peat from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024 with their Super Bowl LIX victory. And according to Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley, this puts the Eagles team from 2024 in a truly elite category in the history of the NFL.

Barkley discussed how last season went during an appearance on the Exciting Mics podcast with teammates Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship, detailing that he believes their team last season was a top-five team in NFL history.

“I firmly believe when you look at our team that we had last year… I know we’re not looking too far into the past. But our team last year, I think we’re a top-five team of all-time,” said Barkley. “I tell my boys this all the time. We started off 2-2 and lost to Washington. Jalen (Hurts) got hurt that game. But if you really look at the season outside of the first four games, it was belt to a**. Like, how dominant you guys were on defense and how dominant we were on offense and special teams.

“People don’t realize how great of a team that actually was. You hear the outside noise and expectations. We didn’t care how it looked. The only thing we cared about was winning football games. And when you have the talent and the skill we had on that team, mixed with the coaches, we all play together like how he played, teams really stood no chance. I really think when we look back on that in 10 to 15 years, when we’re all old, reflecting on our glory days, people don’t give us enough credit.”

Based on strictly wins and losses in their respective season compared to teams from years past, the Eagles do have an argument for a top-five spot in league history, considering they won 14 regular-season games en route to their Super Bowl victory.

Including the postseason, the Eagles won a total of 18 games last season, a feat that only three other teams in NFL history, the 2007 New England Patriots, who didn’t even win the Super Bowl that year, the 1985 Chicago Bears, and the 1984 San Francisco 49ers, have ever done.

That being said, comparing teams from one year to teams in another is entirely subjective. So it is truly up to the eye of the beholder to determine which teams stand above the rest in terms of which teams are the best in the history of the NFL.

Regardless, Barkley is quite confident that we will one day look back quite favorably at the 2024 Eagles roster. And at least on paper, it seems like he has a very valid argument for that being the case.
