Saquon Barkley appears set to miss his second straight game in Week 4 as he deals with a high ankle sprain.

The New York Giants running back showed up as doubtful on the team’s final injury report for the Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Barkley suffered the injury in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. Initially reported as a low ankle sprain, there was some concern when it was later revealed to be a more serious high ankle sprain.

Yet Barkley returned to practice Thursday and did individual drills, leading to speculation he might play Monday night.

Head coach Brian Daboll did nothing to discourage that speculation, saying Thursday, “Making progress. … see where he’s at.”

Apparently, Barkley didn’t show enough progress to at least be upgraded to questionable.

It’s a long season, obviously, and there’s no point in rushing Barkley back with the risk of him missing more time later.

The NFL world reacted to the news with general approval — why should the Giants take a chance with their big star?
