The girlfriend of (now former) Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Trevone Boykin revealed graphic details of Boykin physically abusing her, which prompted an investigation by Texas police on the allegations. Almost immediately, the Seahawks cut Boykin from the team.

Talking to WFAA 8 in Dallas, Shabrika Bailey revealed the kind of abuse she suffered at the hands of her boyfriend in an incident last week. Bailey claimed that the incident started after Boykin wanted to see a text message from Bailey’s phone and Bailey refused to show him.

“So he goes into a choke. I remember him choking me and I’m trying to calm him down. And I just couldn’t. And I blacked out. I just couldn’t calm him down at all,” Bailey told WFAA.

“The pressure was just hard. The pressure got hard to where I just remember just collapsing completely. And I just woke up in a puddle of blood on the kitchen floor. My whole right side was full of blood on the kitchen floor.”

“And I’ve never seen that much blood. I thought I was bleeding from somewhere else cause it was so much blood, completely,” Bailey said.

Among other injuries, Bailey suffered a broken jaw on both sides of her face which is why her jaw is clenched shut. Boykin tried to clean Bailey up afterward and then took her to a hospital where she was hospitalized for three days. After hospital staff started asking questions on what happened, Boykin left the hospital once they were separately asked questions. After interviewing Bailey about her injuries, Mansfield, TX police revealed they were investigating Boykin for domestic violence.

Bailey revealed that in the past, she tried to protect Boykin previous times where she said he abused her. In one such instance, Bailey claimed that Boykin attacked her in their car that resulted in the car going into reverse and crashing. After fleeing the scene and coming back, Boykin was arrested for public intoxication and marijuana possession. Bailey said she didn’t report what happened back then because she was scared about what would happen if she did.

That is a common misconception about many who believe that it’s so easy for someone to leave someone and go to the police when something happens. Not only is there a control factor but if a complaint is made and that person loses their job, no matter if they’re a pro athlete or have a regular 9 to 5 job, they may blame that on the other person and the abuse could potentially be even worse.

In between last week’s alleged incident and today, Bailey revealed that Boykin tried to come up with ways to make it seem like it was an accident and she either fell or “got jumped” by another woman in what Bailey claims was for Boykin to protect his football career. But by then, Bailey already had her mind made up that she wasn’t going to protect him for this incident and while it wasn’t explicitly said, presumably ended the relationship.

“Just because how he’s leading about the situation, it’s just not cool. Like we’ve been way better than that. Yes, I know I’m probably just dumb and shouldn’t have did it the first time… but this time you could have killed me, like completely,” Bailey said.

“It just can’t keep going on. He just can’t get away with this. This is serious. This is domestic violence,” she said. “You can’t keep doing this, it’s not cool, to constantly, like, make me the victim and you get away with it. Something has to happen because right now [he’s] just consistent with it. Like he can get away with it and nobody ever know.”
