The Seattle Seahawks are facing the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday in the Bay Area. However, at a time when the franchise would like to keep the headlines about the product on the field, the Seahawks are in the news for all of the wrong reasons.

However, a ton of the news surrounding the team has had to do with its ownership group. ESPN recently reported that the Allen family, who own a controlling interest in the franchise, would sell the team after the Super Bowl.

It’s something that the estate pushed back on via a statement.

“We don’t comment on rumors or speculation, and the team is not for sale,” read the statement. “We’ve already said that will change at some point per Paul’s wishes, but there is no news to share. Our focus right now is winning the Super Bowl and completing the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers in the coming months.”

However, the league is not happy with the pace at which things are unfolding, and has fined Seattle for “being out of compliance with ownership requirements,” according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

“The Seahawks are now expected to go up for sale shortly after Seattle takes on the New England Patriots next Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif. Behind the scenes, though, frustration from the league was so high that the NFL went as far as issuing the Seahawks a $5 million fine for being out of compliance with ownership requirements, according to people familiar with the matter. The league denied that the team had been fined,” the WSJ claimed.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“They’re doing anything they can to distract us and stop us from winning our ring. Not gonna work,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“What in the Robert Kraft is happening THIS WEEK. The timing is convenient for all of this isn’t it, “someone else added.

“Oh shocking a newspaper owned by a billionaire that the league is already in bed with and looking to bring him on as an owner runs a story a week before the super bowl effectively trying to slander Jody Allen. I’m sure it’s pure coincidence,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if a Super Bowl win inflates Seattle’s value.
