The Seattle Seahawks have long been rumored to be in the running to acquire Baker Mayfield when the Cleveland Browns finally decide to part ways with him at some point before the 2022 NFL season.

A move that the team has made last Friday may make those rumors even more of a possibility moving forward. Seattle announced that have released undrafted free agent Levi Lewis, who they had previously signed after the 2022 NFL Draft.

Lewis took part in the Seahawks rookie mini-camp earlier this month, but it appears that the team feels that he will not have a role on long-time Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson going forward.

No other corresponding moves have occurred with the Seahawks, meaning that they now have an open roster spot on their 90-man roster. This just leaves Geno Smith, Drew Lock, and Jacob Eason as their only quarterbacks on the roster. Most teams try and bring four quarterbacks into training camp.

It appears that is also the Seahawks’ plan, as head coach Pete Carroll detailed in March that their “objective” was to have four quarterbacks heading into training camp.

“We are totally in that mentality that the fourth guy may be important to us,” Carroll said. “We’re definitely still in the quarterback business.”

Mayfield was also seen taking a picture with his fiance over the weekend with some believing the picture was taken somewhere around Seattle.

This could all be a coincidence or Mayfield and his fiance could possibly be taking a trip to potentially see their new home if Seattle makes a trade offer in the coming weeks.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe has detailed that the Seahawks are “still very involved in trade talks” with the Browns.

The Seahawks seem poised to add a quarterback before training camp, and this chain of events over the weekend will only add to more speculation that it could be Baker Mayfield.
