The Los Angeles Rams made a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns to acquire the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL, Myles Garrett, who is coming off an NFL record-setting 23-sack season. Since acquiring the NFL’s single-season sack record holder, there has been more and more buzz surrounding a potential return of NFL legend Aaron Donald from retirement.
The noise surrounding Donald’s potential return started when ESPN’s Pat McAfee said on The Pat McAfee Show that he reached out to Donald via text about coming out of retirement to partner with Garrett, and Donald responded: “It for sure got me thinking.”
Head coach Sean McVay is now making it clear that he’d love for Donald to return to the field for the Rams.
“Aaron’s a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles,” McVay said, via ESPN. “Talked to him about the opportunity to be able to bring him on board. If Aaron decides he wants to dust them off at the age of 35, I bet you he could still do it at a pretty high clip.”
The last time the Rams made a trade of this caliber was in 2021, when they traded franchise quarterback Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions in exchange for the 2025-26 MVP, Matthew Stafford.
That move resulted in a Super Bowl victory, the Rams are hoping the trade for Garrett goes the same way, and being able to pair Garrett and Donald would go a long way toward making that a reality.
