As some teams across the league search for their next head coach, former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has emerged as one of the top available candidates. And even though Payton seems to think it’s unlikely he’ll return to coaching next season, the Arizona Cardinals are showing interest.

According to a report from league insider Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals have received permission to speak to Sean Payton as they conduct their coaching search.

“The #AZCardinals have received permission to speak with #Saints coach Sean Payton, sources say, as they plot out their coaching search. One of the more coveted coaches available, Payton also has an interview looming with the #Broncos,” Rapoport said in a tweet.

As Rapoport mentions in his report, Payton has already been contacted by the Denver Broncos about their head coaching vacancy and is set to interview for that position, as well.

The Broncos, meanwhile, are also in talks with Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh about their coaching vacancy. If the Broncos have productive talks with Harbaugh, they’re expected to make a massive offer to Harbaugh, which would obviously take Payton out of consideration in Denver.
