The Denver Broncos defeated the Buffalo Bills on Saturday evening, punching their ticket to the AFC title game next weekend. However, it sounds like they’ll have to move on without their starting quarterback.
While the Broncos may have won the game, starting quarterback Bo Nix suffered an injury in the win, and head coach Sean Payton confirmed during the postgame press conference that Nix will be out for the remainder of the postseason.
During his postgame press conference, Payton announced that Nix suffered a broken bone in his ankle, which will sideline him for the rest of the playoffs.
With Nix sidelined, the Broncos will now turn to backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who will start in next Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against either the New England Patriots or the Houston Texans, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
Stidham appeared in just one game this season and did not attempt a pass as he simply kneeled down in Denver’s 44-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 26.
Stidham has started four games throughout his NFL career, all of which were with the Broncos. He went 1-3 in those games.
Needless to say, this is a major loss for the Broncos that will put a bit of a damper on the team’s celebration of the playoff win.
We’ll have to wait and see how Stidham performs for the team next week, as he now has a chance to be a bit of a hero and help lead his team to the Super Bowl as a backup quarterback.
