It appears that former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has narrowed down his choices of what teams he wants to coach for if and when he returns.
The four teams that Payton is reportedly interested in are the Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos, and he reportedly may even consider a return to Saints.
Payton — an NFL analyst for Fox Sports — indicated on Tom Brady’s podcast Let’s Go! that he’s ready to return sooner than later.
“I think sooner than later. I really enjoy the current job I have… But I think relative to coaching, though, I know that I want to coach again, and it’s not really been a secret. But I wanna find the right spot. And as Tom alluded to, you know, it’s still about the people. Because when it’s all done and it’s quiet, I don’t think it’s the money or the crowd cheers, or the trophies, or any of that other stuff. I think it’s about the journey with the people that you really enjoy… So we’ll kind of see what happens. But sooner than later, though, in fairness to that question. I think that, you know, if not this year, hopefully next year.”
Payton saying he’s ready to return should send a huge signal to teams like the Broncos, whose ownership is reportedly fed up with the way current Nathaniel Hackett’s coaching and leadership abilities. So if a team is interested in hiring Payton, it sounds like the time to make that change is now.
