The Denver Broncos secured the number one overall seed in the AFC. However, Denver left a lot to be desired on the offensive side of the ball. Things got particularly ugly for the Broncos’ offense in the AFC Championship when they were forced to compete without quarterback Bo Nix, who suffered a season ending injury in the divisional round.
Now, Broncos head coach Sean Payton is making a major change to the operation in Denver, and stepping down from his role as the team’s offensive play caller, per one prominent insider around the league.
“A notable change: Broncos HC Sean Payton said OC Davis Webb will be Denver’s play caller this season,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“I can’t fathom Sean Payton ever giving up play calling knowing how he operates… And that should tell you everything you need to know about Davis Webb,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Wow. I’ll take the L on that. Did not think this would end up happening,” someone else added.
“Pretty much the last head coach I’d ever expect this from. Maybe part of the deal to get Webb to stay?” one fan added.
This will be the first time in Payton’s head coaching career that he won’t be the offensive play caller.
