So it’s come to this for Sean Payton: Not only is he trying to land an NFL coaching gig, he’s also running a fact-checking service about his job search.
Payton fired up his Twitter account Thursday evening to refute a tweet several hours earlier. The Washington Post‘s Mark Maske had reported that, “[T]here was an issue with Payton’s interview with the Broncos. Payton likes the idea of coaching Russell Wilson and having that defense but fears a potential power struggle with a member of the ownership group.”
Payton refuted the rumor he had a problem during his visit with the Broncos.
“Zero truth to this. We had a great visit and @Broncos Ownership was fantastic!!”

As Maske’s report noted, the Carolina Panthers, who never seemed a serious prospect for Payton, are now officially off the board with their hire of Frank Reich Thursday.
Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the possible options are running out for Payton to make a return to coaching next season.
“As you go through the different places that Sean Payton has interviewed, it does not seem like a second interview is coming with any of those,” Rapoport said on NFL Network. “As of right now, it does not seem like there is a place for Sean Payton.”
