Former New Orleans Saints head coach and current FOX analyst Sean Payton is expected to become the next head coach of the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos and Saints have finalized the compensation for the Super Bowl-winning head coach, according to multiple reports. This clears the way for Payton to sign with the Broncos to become Denver’s next head coach, reports NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

According to Schefter, the compensation for Payton will be Denver’s 2023 first-round pick (via San Francisco) and next year’s second-round pick. In addition to Payton, the Broncos will also receive the Saints’ 2024 third-round selection.

It should be noted that Denver traded edge rusher Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the first-round pick (No. 30 overall) that will be heading to New Orleans. It was unlikely that Denver was going to re-sign Chubb, who signed a five-year, $110 million contract extension with the Dolphins following the trade.

Denver traded its own first-round pick in the Russell Wilson trade, so acquiring a pick for Chubb allowed the Broncos to get a Super Bowl-winning head coach in Payton, who will now be tasked with trying to fix the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

UPDATE (6:49 p.m. ET): Full details of the trade and compensation have been revealed by NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
