Former New Orleans Saints head coach and current FOX analyst Sean Payton is expected to become the next head coach of the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos and Saints have finalized the compensation for the Super Bowl-winning head coach, according to multiple reports. This clears the way for Payton to sign with the Broncos to become Denver’s next head coach, reports NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Breaking: Saints and Broncos are finalizing compensation in return for Super Bowl-winning HC Sean Payton, sources tell ESPN. This clears the way for Payton to sign with the Broncos to become Denver’s next head coach.
And so Payton is expected to head to Denver as its next HC. pic.twitter.com/HA4RAtE6P8

According to Schefter, the compensation for Payton will be Denver’s 2023 first-round pick (via San Francisco) and next year’s second-round pick. In addition to Payton, the Broncos will also receive the Saints’ 2024 third-round selection.
Compensation: Denver’s 2023 first-round pick and next year’s second-round pick for Sean Payton and the Saints’ 2024 third.

It should be noted that Denver traded edge rusher Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the first-round pick (No. 30 overall) that will be heading to New Orleans. It was unlikely that Denver was going to re-sign Chubb, who signed a five-year, $110 million contract extension with the Dolphins following the trade.
Denver traded its own first-round pick in the Russell Wilson trade, so acquiring a pick for Chubb allowed the Broncos to get a Super Bowl-winning head coach in Payton, who will now be tasked with trying to fix the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
UPDATE (6:49 p.m. ET): Full details of the trade and compensation have been revealed by NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
And final terms of the deal …
• Broncos get: Sean Payton, 2024 3rd-round pick.
• Saints get: 2023 1st-round pick, 2024 2nd-round pick.
… Were worked out by GMs Mickey Loomis and George Paton. Essentially, for Denver, this is Bradley Chubb and a 2 for Payton and a 3.

Sean Payton heading to Denver in a deal that will involve the pick the Broncos got for Bradley Chubb. New owners kept swinging. And they land the biggest fish. https://t.co/TqvLqNTlik

Trading a first and second-round pick for Sean Payton is beyond stupid.

So the Broncos basically allocated 3 first-round picks + 3 second-round picks + more for Russell Wilson and Sean Payton…. It’s gotta be winning time over in Denver. Like, immediately lol https://t.co/RzjLanuFO1

Never a doubt that Sean Payton would get the Broncos Job.

Everyone has been (understandably) critical of George Paton, but moving Bradley Chubb for the 29th pick in this year’s draft and not paying him $22M per year just provided him the ammo to land Sean Payton

It’s a pretty penny but, if they get the Sean Payton we saw in New Orleans, it’s a GREAT move
Little worried about how this situation played out, but hard to complain about DEN getting an elite HC that provides direction for the franchise https://t.co/LzAifdNvPZ

Appreciate what you did for the #Saints , will never forget all the wins and of course that 2009 season. Good luck @SeanPayton

Getting rid of Bradley Chubb enabled Denver to get Sean Payton.
That's gonna be a fascinating element of this if Payton resuscitates Russell Wilson's career.
