The Cincinnati Bengals are doing everything in their power to avoid another slow start to the regular season this year. In order for that to happen, the Bengals will almost certainly need star quarterback Joe Burrow healthy and ready to go.
So, it’s not hard to see why a scuffle broke out in practice after Burrow took a hit from one of the rookies on the defensive line.
“We’ve got a scrum at #Bengals practice. Not sure what the cause was here, but after the first play of a 30 minute period of 11 v 11 scrimmage, the offense and defense come together for a scrum. Will be an interesting remainder of the period,” Yanni Tragellis reported initially before following up with more details.
“Ted Karras just spoke to reporters after practice: said the scrum was caused by Shemar Stewart bumping Joe Burrow. He said he liked the fire, but he has to be smarter to not hit the QB in practice. He also put some of the blame on the offensive line, saying they have to block better.”
Fans reacted to the incident on social media.
“I would’ve been afraid for Shemar safety if Joe got injured on that play, in the locker room and around the city,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Be better fellas, you’re supposed to be professionals. I don’t want my kids thinking they can start fights out on the field,” someone else added.
“Simply would not want Shamar on my team,” one person wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if Stewart gets disciplined by the team for his hit on Burrow.
