Snoop Dogg weed

The NFL and NBA have long been adamant about players not using marijuana, but as views on marijuana continue to evolve and more and more states are making the recreational use of marijuana legal, the push for these leagues to consider modifying their stance on the drug continues to grow louder and louder. Joining the fight on Wednesday was none other than Snoop Dogg.

During an appearance on First Take, Snoop Dogg was asked for his opinion on the use of marijuana in sports, which allowed him to speak his mind about why he thinks the NFL and NBA are so stringent on banning the use of marijuana for players. For Snoop, it seems to come down to racial profiling by the leagues.

“My position is, NHL, they don’t test for marijuana. Major League Baseball, they don’t test for marijuana. Basketball and NFL they test for marijuana,” Snoop Dogg explained. “The sports that are basically dominated that people that look like me and people that do what I do. So it seems like there’s racial profiling going on, because like [Max Kellerman] said, it seems like they’re in bed with the alcohol companies and whatnot.”

It goes without saying that Snoop is pro-marijuana, but he also has a grasp of the sports world as well and knows the research going into the drug for medicinal purposes, and it is because of that he wants to see the leagues bring their line of thinking about marijuana into the modern times.

“It’s not that we want you to come to work under the influence, but maybe when you’re after work and you need healing and you’re taking this medicine to help you with these migraines and these back pains and all the stuff that these pills that you take is really blowing your stomach up and messing your mind up,” Snoop said. “So now you’re taking something that’s prescribed by a doctor, maybe it’s just a rubbing cream, maybe it’s an edible. It doesn’t always have to be smoking. There’s different ways of being treated through this medical cannabis.”

Of course, First Take has a co-host who is known to tell athletes to stay off the weed, so Stephen A. Smith countered Snoop’s response in typical Stephen A. Smith fashion by focusing on players who defy the rules of the leagues they play. Snoop came to the defense of Smith’s long-running stance by suggesting players do need to play by the rules of the leagues they are playing no matter what they think about marijuana.

Stephen A. seemed content with the response.
