The Pittsburgh Steelers are having one of the busiest offseasons in franchise history. Pittsburgh traded with the Seattle Seahawks for star wide receiver DK Metcalf and then signed four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers in free agency.
On Monday, the franchise traded one of the cornerstones of its secondary, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, to the Miami Dolphins in return for cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Unfortunately, there’s still one major domino that needs to fall for the Steelers, as pressure is mounting in regard to one of its star players, according on one prominent league insider.
“Sources: In recent weeks, multiple teams have been discussing whether they can trade for Steelers’ standout T.J. Watt, who skipped the team’s most recent minicamp. Pittsburgh hasn’t shown any willingness to deal Watt so far, but he’s unhappy with his contractual situation and sources believe outside team interest is likely to increase given today’s trade,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Love TJ but he isn’t with $40 million. No player is, particularly on defense. Split that money up and get multiple game breakers on this Steelers team,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Unless the Steelers recently swapped GMs with the Mavericks, I doubt they are trading TJ Watt,” someone else added.
“What would it take to land T.J. Watt? Would take a haul, no? A haul plus a huge new contract. What teams could stomach that?” one fan wondered.
It’ll be interesting to see how the situation resolves itself.
