Matt Canada said Thursday the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have a “tremendous offense.”

The Steelers embattled offensive coordinator was asked Thursday what he plans to do differently to spur the  NFL’s 30th-ranked offense. Canada, though, is that convinced what the Steelers are doing will eventually click.

“‘Hey, we’re going to stay the course, we’re going to do what we do, we’ve got young guys, it’s going to take some time,’” Canada said (via triblive.com). “I said it last week and I’ve said it for three weeks prior: fast enough was the first week of the season. Until we get where we need to get, it’s not fast enough, and I appreciate that. But we understand some of the things, some of the things aren’t okay, and we’ve got to get them off the tape. I think it’s going to be on Sunday.

“I’m going to continue to believe that, and our guys are going to believe that and at some point, we have a lot of talent, it’s just got to happen.”

Such optimism might seem surprising. Canada has certainly had reason to doubt himself, and his system, given the poor results. Several weeks ago, a report surfaced that some Steelers players wanted to see Canada replaced.

Canada is convinced the offense is on the right track.

“Do I think our offense is going to be really good?” Canada said. “I really, really do. Are we there now? No. Is it good enough? No. We all are aware of that, all you can do is keep fighting and keep pushing and wait for the dam to break, as (head coach Mike Tomlin said). That’s what’s got to happen, and until it does, we’re going to be standing here and that’s not where we want to be. But that’s what got to happen.”

“I’ll continue to say it,” Canada said. “This is going to be a tremendous offense.”

Steelers fans hearing Canada’s comments aren’t so sure about that.
