Few NFL quarterbacks have had their reputations massaged in the way Mitchell Trubisky’s was this offseason. But if there’s any franchise that knows how to deal with a quarterback who needs some help repairing their reputation, it’s the Pittsburgh Steelers. And the team appears to have found its replacement for Ben Roethlisberger in Trubisky, which is quite the sentence.
The #Steelers have reached agreement on a two-year deal with QB Mitchell Trubisky, sources say. The former No. 2 overall pick heads to Pittsburgh as the expected starter in place of the retired Ben Roethlisberger.

Trubisky has been getting tons of hype in the NFL media as teams scramble to find quarterbacks they can depend on, which is really saying something considering Mitch was run out of Chicago because he was completely not dependable.
Trubisky was the poster child for everything wrong with the Bears during his time there. And while you could certainly argue the team had other issues, his inability to do anything on offense made their faith in him seem insane to many watching at home. With the way things ended in Chicago, it was fair to assume he’d never get another starting job again. And after spending last season as a backup for the Buffalo Bills, it seemed like he was settling into that stage of his NFL career.
But the hype was apparently there and the Steelers, who were looking for their first new starting quarterback in 18 years, think they can be the ones to fix Trubisky and turn him into a solid NFL starter. God bless.
To be fair, the team does have quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins in-house already and both are expected to compete for that role as well. The team previously referred to Rudolph as their starter “right now” in February.
We’ll have to wait and see how much Trubisky is getting and if it’s the rumored $10 million per year that was bandied about. In the minds of many NFL fans, whatever it is, it’s too much. So he’s got his work cut out for him to prove that he’ll be worth the trouble. And in the meantime, there are plenty of wild reactions out there to the Steelers’ signing.

Trubisky is better than anything Pitt currently has – would imagine he is the Week 1 starter
Wonder if they are officially out of the Malik Willis sweepstakes – as I would think they'd have to move up to get him https://t.co/3KgRd1VQbp

Plan is just to accumulate 1st-round QB busts and have them battle it out Royal Rumble style. https://t.co/4hWcmlzVCi

Needless to say, the Steelers should still be considering their QB options in the first round of April's draft. https://t.co/sH1RKqZTMg

To be fair, not everyone thought it was a terrible idea.
I don’t hate it provided it isn’t too expensive. Rudolph stinks. Play Mitch next season, if he’s good look at him long term. If not draft someone next draft — trade up if you have to. https://t.co/dNNGnUUCXp

That’s actually a great landing spot for him. Strong run game, great pass catchers a terrific coach / stable franchise that will be able to support him. He’ll be a sneaky sleeper in deeper leagues / 2 QB leagues. https://t.co/RIrXAjRycs

I think he’ll be fine in that offense? https://t.co/XS9aE8zv4D

It will definitely be interesting to see if the Steelers still consider drafting a quarterback in the NFL Draft or if they feel like they’ve got their guy.
