What does one do when one is suspended for a full season from the NFL, thanks to multiple violations of the league’s drug policy? For 24-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant, the answer is volunteer to coach his position at the high school level.

Bryant is returning to Henderson, Nevada, to train and also volunteer coach wide receivers at a local high school.

No doubt Bryant has much to teach the kids about the finer art of being a wide receiver. After all, he did pull down 17 touchdown receptions in the last two seasons alone. However, this could also be a chance to humble a player that has been out of control for a while.

Bryant was suspended four games in 2015, and then received his year-long suspension in January. He won’t be eligible for reinstatement until this upcoming January. The good news is that it appears his teammates in Pittsburgh aren’t leaving him out to twist in the wind.

Here’s more on Bryant, from ESPN.Com:

Teammate Markus Wheaton said he keeps in touch with Bryant and said Bryant is in a good place.

“He’s not traveling as much. He’s with the right people. He’s stationary,” Wheaton said. “I think he’ll be fine.”

The cynic may see this as all part of a ploy, especially when the announcement comes from his agent Thomas Santanello, and the statement also includes a note of Bryant making a weekly appearance at a local hospital as a volunteer as well.

No matter the motivation behind the move, if it works to get Bryant back to a good place in his battle against drugs, and back onto the field permanently, it’s all worth it.
