The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to an impressive 2-0 start to begin the season. Unfortunately for the Bucs, the games have been tough sledding, with both wins coming after late go-ahead scores.
The Bucs’ most recent win, on Monday Night Football against the Houston Texans, saw quarterback Baker Mayfield take a beating. So much so that he was expected to miss some practice time to recover.
““Though #Bucs QB Baker Mayfield took plenty of hits in the dramatic win on MNF against the #Texans, his injuries did not require any MRIs or additional scans. Mayfield may take some time off this week, but should be good to go for Sunday against the #Jets,” reported Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
While Mayfield is still expected to take the field this weekend, it’s looking less and less like one of his top targets will be able to join him.
“Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka didn’t practice today, per the team’s injury report,” reported NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Hope it’s nothing serious—get well soon, Egbuka,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Baker and the Practice Squad getting ready to play on Sunday,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Bucs replace Egbuka’s production if he is unable to go and who Mayfield turns to in his absence.
