It’s been over two years since the Washington NFL franchise retired its insensitive “Redskins” nickname after decades of pressure, temporarily playing as the “Washington Football Team” before announcing a more permanent name change to the Washington Commanders ahead of the 2021 season. Apparently, Washington co-CEO Tanya Snyder missed all of that.

This week, Tanya Snyder gave a speech ahead of the Commanders’ game against the Green Bay Packers in which she introduced team legends Art Monk, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien. At the end of her speech, she used the team’s controversial former name, saying “Hail to the Redskins.”

“Hail to the Redskins, and let’s beat Green Bay,” Tanya Snyder said at the end of her speech.

Whether it was a simple slip of the tongue or an intentional move in order to make a statement, the NFL world absolutely blasted the co-owner for using the insensitive former nickname with many jokingly suggesting that she doesn’t even know the name of the team she owns.

This certainly isn’t the only controversy for the Snyders or the Commanders as there are currently numerous accusations against her husband and co-owner Dan Snyder as the league investigates allegations of sexual harassment, misogyny, and financial fraud which could result in his removal as a team owner.
