When most players are in the middle of contract negotiations with a team, they don’t typically show up to voluntary workouts. In fact, some even hold themselves out from training camp. But Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tee Higgins is taking a very different approach.
Despite his current contract situation, Tee Higgins has decided to participate in the Cincinnati Bengals’ voluntary offseason workout program, explaining that it’s a perfect way to come and get his workout in.
“I love the game, man. I wanted to come in and work. I live here in Cincinnati. Why not come in and work out? For free? End of the day, I’m just here to get my work in,” Higgins said according to Paul Dehner Jr.
Tee Higgins on why he decided to participate in offseason program when many in his situation don't: "I love the game, man. I wanted to come in and work. I live here in Cincinnati. Why not come in and work out? For free? End of the day, I’m just here to get my work in."

Higgins was asked if he was sending a message by showing up to the non-mandatory workouts despite his contract extension. While he understands why some might take it that way, he said it’s more about just staying in shape.
“Not necessarily,” Higgins said. “People can put it that way. End of the day, I”m in it for me. And get my body in the best shape to play at the highest level come game time.”
Did anybody recommend Tee sit out non-mandatory portion? "My agent was even like, 'Do what you want to do. It’s what you want to do. I’m not going to tell you what to do.' That was my decision to come back and come work out."

One way or another, it’s a pretty surprising decision from Higgins, but he seems to insist it’s the best choice for him.
