The Tennessee Titans selected quarterback Cam Ward out of the University of Miami with the number one overall pick in the 2025 draft. However, unlike most first overall picks, Ward was not set up to start immediately, as incumbent starter Will Levis was still on the roster.

Unfortunately for Levis, the path for Ward to take control of the franchise has just opened, per one prominent NFL insider.

“Titans QB Will Levis will be undergoing season-ending surgery on the right shoulder injury he sustained early last year before further aggravating it later in the season. Levis has been unable to shake the discomfort and his shoulder still is bothering him. Levis is, in the words of a source, ‘dedicated to return to be able to compete at the highest level possible,'” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Schefter followed up on his initial report.

“With Will Levis out for the year, No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward is now poised to become the Titans’ starting quarterback, despite the fact that the team has not named him its starter. The Titans other backup QBs are veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle. Ward now shapes up as the Week 1 starter at Denver.”

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Such weird timing on this… if not at the end of last season, he should have definitely gotten the surgery after the Titans took Cam Ward at 1 to have any shot at playing this season,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“That’ll take quite the surgery, given the level at which he has competed to this point,” another fan added.

“Tough break for Will Levis. Shoulder injuries are brutal especially when they linger this long. Let’s hope he comes back stronger next season,” someone else wrote.

It’ll be interesting to see if Levis ever takes the field for the Titans again.
