The Washington Commanders went all the way to the NFC Championship in last year’s playoffs before eventually falling to the Philadelphia Eagles, who would go on to win the Super Bowl. After turning in such an outstanding rookie campaign, there’s been a lot of buzz and excitement about what young quarterback Jayden Daniels can accomplish in his second year in the league.
Unfortunately for Daniels, his top target, Terry McLaurin, has been involved in a contract standoff with the franchise, as he seeks a long-term extension. With no deal imminent, it appears that McLaurin is ready to move on to greener pastures.
“Terry McLaurin requested a trade, as (Jordan Schultz) also reported,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday before following up with the level of interest around the league.
“There have been teams that have contemplated making a move for disgruntled WR Terry McLaurin, but the Commanders have had no interest in moving on from him.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“All those years of bad football and finally a chance at a winning team and he wants to bail. Some ppl just aren’t built to try and win,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“They can’t possibly believe they’re better without him right?” one fan wrote.
“Could be his leverage to try and get something done..and if not, this could get ugly,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Daniels looks if he’s missing his top receiver.
