Here’s one ratty haircut.

One thing guaranteed to unfold at NFL training camps is rookie hazing. The most popular form of hazing is largely harmless. Veterans will shave the heads of rookies, giving them awful, unforgivably bad haircuts. Case and point, the Denver Broncos decided to shave the head of guard Connor McGovern.

Denver got creative with McGovern’s new hairdo. Not only did they shave a streak down the middle of his head, but also managed to trim the hair on the back of his head to design a rat. It’s weird, but you can’t deny the craftsmanship of the cut.

For me, nothing will quite top the haircut given to former Oakland Raiders rookie Lucas Nix, but it’s impossible to deny the creativity of McGovern’s cut. Considering how impressive it is, it would be shocking if a fellow player cut his hair as it would take serious skill to shave the rat into his head. If it was a fellow Broncos player, if football doesn’t work out, a career in hairdressing seems feasible.

The cut is entertaining but rookie hazing still continuing in NFL locker rooms is somewhat disappointing. It’s all fun and games when the haircuts are given, but these rookies have families to go home to and have a life outside of football. It won’t be easy for McGovern to explain why a rat is shaved in his head.
