The NFL’s longest pass was thrown by one of the league’s most criticized quarterbacks: Jay Cutler.

While Cutler’s future with the Bears is in doubt, there’s no second-guessing his arm. As noted by PFT, NFL Next Gen Stats notes Cutler threw the longest pass in the league last season, coming in at more than 65 yards.

It came back in November against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and in the box score counted as a 50-yard touchdown. But the Hail Mary was actually 65 yards, starting from where Cutler threw the ball all the way to where it ended up getting caught, on the diagonal across the field.

Cutler’s time in Chicago appears to be nearing an end, but the throw is a great reminder of Cutler’s cannon arm. That will be a factor when team’s look at signing him. But, Cutler’s arm doesn’t overshadow his forgettable season in 2016. Cutler missed two-thirds of the season, appearing in just five games. He threw only four touchdowns, including this beauty.

He can still sling the ball. Whether he gets to play for a decent team, or whether he can stay healthy for a whole season? That’s much more of a question.
