It was a long wait for Malik Willis to hear his name called during the 2022 NFL Draft. While many people were happy to see him finally get drafted with the 85th overall selection and 21st pick of the third round by the Tennessee Titans, his arrival means that someone else is losing a roster spot.

Following the end of the draft, the Titans released veteran quarterback Kevin Hogan on Saturday.

The Stanford product was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, though he was released before the following season. He spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns and has made his way around the league with stints with the Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Titans.

Hogan was mostly on the practice squad last season for Tennessee and signed a reserve/future contract with the organization in January. In his career, the 29-year-old has nine appearances, a 59.4 career completion percentage, 621 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Willis will now compete with Ryan Tannehill and Logan Woodside for his placement on the depth chart. The Titans will want him to become the starter at some point, but we’ll see how soon that comes to happen.
