The Tennessee Titans currently hold the rights to the number one overall pick in Thursday night’s NFL draft. Many thought that the Titans would entertain trading the pick in order to create long-term depth, especially with this being considered one of the weaker quarterback classes in recent memory.
However, the Titans are staying pat and making the first selection on Thursday, per general manager Borgonzi.
“We’ve come to a consensus — the entire organization — to stay at that pick,” Borgonzi said in a pre-draft press conference on Tuesday. “And I guess you’ll find out Thursday night who we pick.”
All signs seem to be pointing toward the Titans taking quarterback Cam Ward out of Miami University with the selection, although Borgonzi didn’t confirm that was the direction the organization was going in.
“It’s such a long process here and we wanted to go through the whole thing,” Borgonzi said. “I don’t know if there was a certain point along the process, but we were listening the whole time. And then as we got toward the end of the process, we decided as an organization we were going to stay.”
Because they’re keeping their pick doesn’t mean the Titans didn’t get calls.
“There was interest, yeah,” Borgonzi revealed. “I thought that was doing our due diligence and going through the process to listen to those offers. And there were. I don’t want to go into specifics of what the offers were or the teams were. But there were offers.”
Even if they’re retaining their draft pick, the Titans may have a surprise waiting for the NFL world, and it could rhyme with Travis Hunter.
