The Pittsburgh Steelers had their biggest question mark of the offseason resolved last week when veteran quarterback agreed on a one-year deal to play with the franchise for the 2025 season. Since signing on, Rodgers has told his teammates that from here on, he is completely bought in.
However, one Steelers star does not seem to care what is going on with Rodgers or how bought in the quarterback might be, and is making it clear he isn’t going to buy in himself until he gets the sort of contract he feels he deserves.
“The #Steelers All-Pro edge TJ Watt, seeking a new deal, is not in attendance at mandatory minicamp, per me and (Mike Garafolo). No progress on a long-term deal,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rappoport.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Imagine not being able to pay your best pass rusher LOL,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Myles Garrett got $40M AAV and 123.5M in total guarantees at roughly the same age. That should be the bar for Watt,” another fan added.
“And the circus begins. Or can we say it’s continuing since they have Rodgers after waiting for months?” one person added.
It’ll be interesting to see how things between Watt and the organization play out.
