The Steelers appear to be locked in perpetual mediocrity as their playoff win drought approaches 10 years. One of the organization’s lone bright spots has been star pass rusher and former Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt.
However, Watt is frustrated with the lack of an extension as he heads into the final year of his contract, and he even posted a photo to Instagram of him showing the peace sign, potentially hinting that his time in Pittsburgh may be coming to an end soon.
One Steelers reporter shed more light on the developing situation.
“After talking to people, I’d keep an eye on this #Steelers T.J. Watt contract situation moving forward a little more closely. It doesn’t appear that the IG picture (below) he posted yesterday was just by chance.
“I’d imagine an extension is still going to eventually get done, but the price tag just might be a tad bit higher than some anticipated,” reported Mark Kaboly on Thursday morning.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Did great things here but gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“If they drop 40 million on him it would continue the downward acceleration of the franchise. I say go for it!!! Then draft Sanders in the first round. Perfect disaster scenario,” someone else added.
“Appreciate his time here, they won’t win a Super Bowl in the foreseeable future with or without him. Best of luck with your new team,” added someone else.
It’ll be interesting to see if Watt gets an extension or finds a new home sooner than anyone anticipated.
