Legendary quarterback Tom Brady shocked the NFL world earlier this month when he took what appeared to be an unexpected absence from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to deal with “some personal things.” Head coach Todd Bowles has insisted that Brady’s absence was planned and that he’s not worried, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating about the reason for the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s absence.

Some took Brady’s mysterious absence as a reason to point out that Brady “looked miserable” in training camp while others made assumptions about how his family played into it. One wild Reddit theory even suggested that Brady could be taking part in The Masked Singer television show.

But now it looks like we know the real reason for Brady’s departure.

According to a report from Pro Football Network, Brady took a trip with his wife Gisele Bündchen to an exclusive resort in the Bahamas.

“His commitment to family and having a personal life was at the heart of this hiatus from football, and there was no medical emergency, as speculated, or other reasons,” Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network said. “As important as football is to Brady, so is his family, and the Buccaneers have given him his space to be with them.”

While the latest report clarifies Brady’s whereabouts, the NFL world was not particularly supportive of Brady’s decision to leave the team during training camp.

After his brief preseason hiatus, Brady will reportedly rejoin the team on Monday.
