Last year was not easy for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady as he went through a very public divorce with his longtime partner Gisele Bündchen, ending their 13-year marriage. And even though there was a pattern of marital issues stretching multiple years and Gisele was apparently planning the divorce for quite some time before it became public, Brady was apparently caught off guard by the news.

During an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, former Buccaneers quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen got pretty blunt and honest about his time with Tom Brady this season. And he revealed that Brady was “somewhat blindsided” by Gisele’s decision to seek a divorce.

Christenson revealed that Gisele’s decision came just a few weeks into training camp and that it was the reason why Brady took his mysterious absence from the team.

“To watch Tom have to leave training camp for 11 days to take care of some personal problems, it was heartbreaking stuff,” Christensen said. “A divorce. Worrying about his kids. Hard stuff. But then you’re still expected to do your job when you get back. No one cares. And you’ve got a team. You have everyone depending on you. The show goes on.”

It’s clear that Brady was under a lot of stress, and that stress had quite an impact on his health.
