Many athletes and public figures have denounced Presidential candidate Donald Trump after he made recent anti-Muslim comments. Many were wondering how New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady would respond, given he says he’s a friend of Trump’s. Trump, in turn, has been throwing around Brady’s name in interviews, specifically saying how great Brady has been to Trump’s campaign success in Boston to the Washington Post.

Brady finally broke his silence on the topic during his regular appearance on WEEI 93.7 FM saying he supports his friends – including Trump.

“Can I just stay out of this debate?” Brady said with a laugh. “Donald is a good friend of mine. I have known him for a long time. I support all my friends. That is what I have to say. He’s a good friend of mine. He’s always been so supportive of me — for the last 15 years, since I judged a beauty pageant for him, which was one of the very first things that I did that thought was really cool. That came along with winning the Super Bowl. He’s always invited me to play golf. I’ve always enjoyed his company. I support all my friends and everything they do.

When asked if he endorsed Trump, he was noncommittal.

“This is really important to you guys, huh?” Brady said.

The question about Trump comes at the 13-minute mark. And there you have it. The hosts did let Brady off the hook before he said if he endorses Trump, but Brady didn’t go as far to say he’s not backing his good friend, nor did he distance himself from any of Trump’s recent comments. Brady will make a fine politician himself one day with that kind of slick non-answering answer. One would hope he doesn’t want to be associated with Trump’s recent polarizing remarks, so not fully backing him make sense, although Tuesday’s comments (and locker room hat) suggest otherwise.
