Over the past several months, it’s become clear that Tom Brady has developed a considerable amount of influence within the Las Vegas Raiders organization since becoming a minority owner of the team last year. And now, it sounds like he and the team are looking for a new quarterback.
The Raiders are in need of a new quarterback after deciding to part ways with veteran starter Gardner Minshew this offseason. Now, according to a report from Diana Russini of The Athletic, the Las Vegas Raiders are “exploring” the idea of acquiring a veteran starting quarterback via trade.
“The Las Vegas Raiders are exploring veteran quarterback options on the free agent and trade market, per sources. That includes the possibility of trading for a current starting QB,” Russini said in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
As for who that veteran quarterback could be, Las Vegas Raiders insider Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal thinks that Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Geno Smith could make “a lot of sense.”
“If the [Raiders] do go down the trade route for a veteran QB for 2025, Geno Smith makes a lot of sense. Keep an eye on that one,” Bonsignore wrote in a post on X.
This move would make sense, especially given that the Raiders recently hired former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who had great success coaching Smith during his time in Seattle.
Over two full seasons under Carroll in Seattle, Smith completed 67.4% of his passes for 7,906 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions, earning Pro Bowl selections in both seasons.
We’ll have to see who the Raiders choose to bring in as their next quarterback. Whoever it is, however, it’s pretty clear that Brady will have a say in the process.
