The whispers about Tony Pollard aren’t really whispers anymore — they’re more like shouts.

For quite some time, many Dallas Cowboys fans have been saying that Pollard is a better, more explosive and more elusive running back than starter Ezekiel Elliott.

Pollard has made that point himself with his sensational play over the past two games. He rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns in Week 9 against the Chicago Bears. And with Elliott sidelined a second straight game by a knee injury, Pollard had another great outing Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

As the game wore on, NFL fans and Cowboys faithful turned to Twitter to debate the Pollard vs. Elliott issue. While Elliott — the three-time Pro Bowler — has his fans, the general consensus seemed to be that Pollard is clearly the better back now.

“I love Tony Pollard LFG,” tweeted former Cowboys star Dez Bryant.

“That’s why Tony Pollard should be the No. 1 running back,” tweeted ESPN commentator Skip Bayless.

Earlier Sunday, Mason Dodd tweeted the quiet part out loud.

“Ezekiel Elliott questionable with a ‘Tony Pollard is better’ injury.”

Pollard entered Sunday averaging an eye-popping 6.2 yards per carry, fourth in the NFL. When Elliott returns from his injury, possibly next week, he’ll still be the starter. Team owner Jerry Jones has made that clear. But Pollard has made the case to get a lot more touches.
