Even teams that have no hope of drafting reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter are eager to see what the former Colorado Buffaloes star can accomplish in the NFL.
Hunter made his name being not only a standout cornerback but also by being arguably the best receiver in the country. However, there are doubts that the young phenom’s body can endure a full NFL season of playing both offense and defense.
However, whoever drafts Hunter had better allow him to play both ways. If not, he is going to call it a career and retire, per his own words before the draft, which puts teams in between a rock and a hard place when deciding whether to draft him.
“Travis Hunter says he won’t play football at all if an NFL team tries to limit him to just one side of the ball. Hunter told (Garrett Podell) that no team has expressed any issues with him playing both CB and WR in the NFL,” Ari Meirov reported.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Simply don’t understand the need to prove he can do both. If he is half as good as he thinks he is he’ll dominate enough on one side of the ball that he won’t need to cook himself on the other,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“If he’s good enough to do it in the pros then no team will stop him. If he can’t , they will. It’s that simple,” one fan added.
“Good luck with that bro… Unless a team has a need like that (which I don’t think many do), that’s not going to happen,’ another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Hunter follows through on his word and forces a team to let him play both ways.
