Travis Kelce breaks silence on marrying Taylor Swift

As Travis Kelce enters his 14th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs, most likely his last, he’s like a brand-new man.

Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion, married Taylor Swift, a 14-time Grammy winner, in an extravagant ceremony at Madison Square Garden on July 3. The 36-year-old All-Pro tight end finally met with the media at Chiefs training camp. Of course, the first question was about his wedding.

“It was a fun offseason, man,” Kelce said after Wednesday’s practice. “The wedding was the best night of my life, and I appreciate everybody who came out and celebrated and had fun with us. That’s about all I really got from that night. It was a crazy night. It was full of a lot of celebration, but it’s football [now], baby.”

Later in the presser, Kelce spoke specifically about having MSG as his wedding venue.

“You know, I always told myself I’d go for a playoff game when the Knicks were rockin’,” Kelce said. “My wife went when I was stuck in minicamp, so I didn’t get my opportunity to go then. So, it’s kind of cool to be able to live out my childhood dream of being in that venue. The mecca of all sports venues.

“Being able to get married in there, I can’t thank the owners of MSG [enough] for allowing us to get the opportunity to do that, knowing that we wanted a private event and everything. So, it was perfect. And the AC was cooking, baby! That was the best part.”

Kelce shot what seemed like the ultimate long shot when he declared his crush on Swift on his New Heights podcast in July 2023. He was, as he so eloquently put it, “a little butt-hurt” that he didn’t get to give Swift a friendship bracelet he’d made her at her The Eras Tour stop in Kansas City earlier that month.

Kelce and Swift publicly debuted their relationship when Swift attended the Chiefs’ trashing of the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 24, 2023. They got engaged almost exactly one year ago. Their relationship timeline has been well-documented and is more or less pop culture scripture by now.

Apparently, over the past three years, the Swiftian art of the Easter egg hasn’t fully rubbed off on Kelce. He missed the perfect opportunity to call their wedding night “enchanted.” I would have even settled for the low-hanging fruit of “Love Story.”

What we know about the Kelce-Swift wedding

In short, we do not know much of anything about the particulars of Kelce and Swift’s wedding night, and that’s by design. Here’s what we do know.

Immediately upon their “I dos,” billboards around Madison Square Garden lit up with “JUST&T MARRIED!”

A press release was disseminated, disclosing that Adam Sandler — yes, the Sandman — officiated the ceremony. Jason Kelce, Travis’ older brother and New Heights co-host, served as best man, and Swift’s brother, Austin, served as her “Man of Honor.”

From the outside looking in, the sprawling guest list signaled that anyone with a modicum of fame probably received an invitation to the wedding. Charles Barkley declined because he “thought it was going to be a crap show.

Jason Kelce confirmed that it was quite the ordeal:

“I haven’t seen any legitimate photos really from the wedding,” Kelce said on Philadelphia’s 94WIP two weeks ago. “It’s remarkable. There were 1,000 people inside Madison Square Garden — the biggest wedding I’ve ever anticipated for sure—and there’s really not a lot out there.

“This was obviously an effort by Travis and Taylor to really make this as intimate of a moment as possible. I know they got some backlash [for getting married at] Madison Square — it didn’t feel like Madison Square. They did a great job of finding an area that could be very secure. It would be some place that they would be able to have this kind of control over it, while also feeling intimate and really special. It was incredibly done.”

What’s next?

On Tuesday, New Heights teased the end of its annual summer hiatus. The Kelce brothers wrapped up Season 4, which premiered with Swift’s record-breaking podcast debut, last month. As of this writing, a Season 5 premiere date hasn’t been announced.

But once New Heights returns, all bets are off on what Jason or Travis Kelce may disclose about the wedding. Probably nothing at all. Or maybe Swift will crash the set to tell all in the Season 5 premiere, too. Pop culture enthusiasts can only hope for the latter.

As for football, Kelce is already the Chiefs’ all-time franchise leader in career receptions (1,080), receiving yards (13,002), and receiving touchdowns (82). He’s also a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

But Kelce staved off retirement to help the Chiefs’ restore their dynasty. After three-straight Super Bowl trips, including back-to-back Super Bowl victories, the Chiefs stumbled to 6-11 last year and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Chiefs open their 2026 regular season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football on Sept. 14.
