Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce appears to get along well with the family of his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. However, their loyalties will clash when it comes to the College Football Playoff national championship game later this week.
On Monday, the Ohio State Buckeyes will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff national championship game. While Kelce doesn’t have a direct personal connection to either team, he’s made it clear which side he’s supporting.
In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Kelce was asked about his interest in the College Football Playoff. Not only has he been following it closely, but he’s also been supporting the Buckeyes.
“If football’s going on, I’m watching it, man,” Kelce said on the show, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch. “Especially when the Buckeyes are making a run at it.”
Kelce’s ties to Ohio run deep, as he grew up in Cleveland Heights in Northeast Ohio.
Though he played college football at Cincinnati rather than Ohio State, Kelce remains loyal to the state of Ohio.
“I’m just an Ohio football guy, man,” Kelce said. “I’m cheering for all Ohio football, baby.”
The problem, however, is that this will put him at odds with the family of Taylor Swift.
While Kelce may not have a direct attachment to either team playing Monday night, the Swift certainly family does as Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, is a Notre Dame alum, having graduated in 2015.
It goes without saying that the Swift family will be rooting for the Fighting Irish. So Kelce’s insistence on rooting for the Buckeyes is obviously a pretty brutal move against the Swift family.
We’ll have to see which team comes out on top on Monday night.
