San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance had a rough debut as the new starting quarterback. Lance and the 49ers lost their season opener to the Chicago Bears, 19-10.
Lance threw for just 164 yards and one interception, which is not exactly what 49er fans expected out of the young quarterback, especially given that he’s replacing a quarterback who took the team to the NFC Championship Game last year.
With that pretty miserable starter debut, the NFL world is chiming in with some thoughts on the 22-year-old. The reactions aren’t positive and some of them are already calling for Jimmy Garoppolo to start again over the second-year player.

It may be still early in the season for Lance but his debut has some already wondering if he is the man for the job.

Despite an unimpressive debut at quarterback, there are still plenty of people out there reminding folks that this is only one game, not to mention that the 49ers had a lot of issues outside of poor quarterback play to pin this loss on, including the crazy weather.
You can really see the flashes of why the Niners moved all that capital to get Trey Lance and to move on from Jimmy G.

49ers have out gained the Bears 330-206 but were doomed by 12 penalties and two turnovers, including one in the red zone. They had two third-down stops negated by flags leading to touchdowns. Trey Lance was pretty meh but not the reason they lost, imo.
