Last year, Trey Lance entered the preseason as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. But after his injury last year and the way Brock Purdy performed down the stretch, he’s going to have to try to re-earn his job this offseason. And unfortunately for him, he didn’t get off to a great start in that regard this weekend.
Trey Lance played the entire first half for the San Francisco 49ers, but it was clear that the offense just wasn’t clicking at first as the team opened the game with three consecutive three-and-outs. And after the game, Lance took the blame for that.
“I mean, it doesn’t feel good to go three and out, especially to start the game,” Lance said in his postgame press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “So, that was definitely frustrating, but I obviously put it on myself to continue to be better, make sure the guys around me are ready to go, I’m ready to go. It starts with me, so I put that on myself.”
It wasn’t all bad though as Lance did ultimately lead the team on a touchdown drive on the fourth possession of the game and finished 10-of-15 for 112 yards with a touchdown.
