The Tampa Bay Buccaneers surprised a lot of fans and pundits with their level of play last season, especially that of quarterback Baker Mayfield. However, the Bucs’ season was ultimately derailed by injuries to key players.
Unfortunately, Tampa Bay already has to deal with another injury to a critical part of its offense, only this time before the season has even commenced, according to one prominent insider.
“Buccaneers All Pro LT Tristan Wirfs will miss the start of the season following surgery on his right knee, source says. An unexpected offseason setback to the reigning NFC South champs,” reported CBS insider Jonathon Jones.
Jones then followed up on his initial report.
“Wirfs dealt with soreness this offseason and it was agreed a scope was necessary for his long-term viability. He’ll likely begin training camp on the PUP list.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Name one notable pass rusher in the NFC South… it won’t matter they’ll be fine,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Injuries are the worst part of sports. Sucks for him. Thinking of the fantasy impact, does this change where guys like Bucky Irving, Baker Mayfield, or Mike Evans come off draft boards?” someone else wrote.
“That is a huge blow. Get better soon big fella,” added another fan.
Hopefully, the Bucs can manage without Wirfs until he returns to health.
