Tyrann Mathieu

One of the biggest moves so far this NFL offseason was former Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu signing with the New Orleans Saints.

Mathieu will be returning back to the state where he initially rose to stardom, playing for the LSU Tigers for two seasons. Despite the reunion, it always seemed like Mathieu’s first choice if he had it his way was to return to Kansas City. He talked about the reasoning behind the team deciding to move on from Mathieu.

“The business sucks,” Mathieu told NBC Sports writer Peter King. He also added that he was hurt and angry that the Chiefs never extended an offer for him to return.

This snub by Kansas City may have actually fueled Mathieu, as he told King that he is hungry as ever to help return the Saints to prominence in 2022.

“I have a lot to accomplish on the field and off the field,” Mathieu said. “To come back here and play where I grew up is really good, really important. When I was young, and I was making mistakes, some big mistakes, a lot of times, something bad would happen with me, or I’d go to jail, and I could sense it in the people who believed in me. Disappointment. Hurt. So now, in my community, I’m gonna be the everyday reminder. You can get better. You can turn your life around.”

Mathieu added that this is likely going to be the final stop in his career, which is certainly fitting considering just how much the people of Louisiana love and support him.

While the Chiefs will be moving on from the Tyrann Mathieu era, Saints fans and the state of Louisiana will be entering their second installment of the Mathieu era in 2022.
