Quarterback David Blough has bounced around the NFL since he was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019. After a stint with the Detroit Lions in which he ended up garnering attention on HBO’s Hard Knocks this summer, he was released earlier this week. Now, he’ll get to potentially work his way up the depth chart with the Minnesota Vikings after signing with their practice squad on Friday.

The 27-year-old will be the No. 3 option for the Vikings behind starter Kirk Cousins and backup Nick Mullens. Minnesota cut Kellen Mond earlier this week.

Blough made a name for himself when he was traded to the Lions and was thrust into the starting role in 2019 when Matthew Stafford was injured. Unfortunately, he went 0-5 in that stretch and finished the season going 94-of-174 throwing for 984 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions. He appeared in one game in each of the following seasons.

The former Purdue signal-caller stood out during Hard Knocks and his potential to be Detroit’s backup quarterback was a major storyline for the show.

Now he’ll get the chance to give the Vikings some competitive advantage against the Lions when they play twice this season. And depending on how things shake out, he might just end up in uniform at some point this season.
