The Minnesota Vikings will have a new starting quarterback this season following Sam Darnold’s departure to join the Seattle Seahawks. McCarthy has shown flashes of the potential that got him drafted in the first round so far in training camp, but he has also experienced the growing pains typical of a young quarterback.

Unfortunately, McCarthy’s first few weeks in the NFL just got a lot harder, according to one prominent league insider.

“Discipline: NFL suspended Vikings WR Jordan Addison for the first three games of the 2025 regular season for violating the league’s Substances of Abuse Policy. Addison now will miss games at Chicago, vs. the Falcons and vs. the Bengals,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“J/A, come back with a vengeance my friend,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Justin Jefferson bout to go nuclear,” another fan predicted.

“Tough break for Addison and the Vikings! Missing those games is gonna sting. Hope he learns from this and comes back stronger,” wrote someone else.

“not stiff enough should’ve been the whole season,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how McCarthy does without such an important weapon at his disposal in his NFL debut.
