The Minnesota Vikings had back-to-back international games. Minnesota first faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland, a lost. However, veteran quarterback Carson Wentz, filling in for the injured J.J. McCarthy, performed admirably.
On Sunday, the Vikings squared off against the Cleveland Browns, and Wentz led a game-winning drive that ended with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordan Addison.
However, as good as Wentz was on Sunday, it would appear that he did enough against the Steelers for Minnesota to feel comfortable letting go of someone else in the quarterback room, per one prominent league insider.
“The #Vikings are placing center Ryan Kelly on injured reserve as he recovers from his second concussion in three weeks, per sources. Kelly will miss at least four games. Another blow to Minnesota’s offensive line, which will be down two other starters Sunday vs. Cleveland,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported before providing an update on the quarterback room.
“The #Vikings also activated FB C.J. Ham for injured reserve and released QB Desmond Ridder.”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“At least they are fortunate that JJ is not able to play,I bet they wished they had not thrown all that money away,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Even when the Purple do what needs to be done in addressing the Oline, it still backfires. The universe and the NFL LOVES to torture the purple,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if McCarthy will return to the starting role.
