The Minnesota Vikings are gearing up for thier first season with young quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who missed all of his rookie season after suffering a knee injury in his first preseason appearance last season.
Now, one of McCarthy’s teammates is talking about how he feels about the young quarterback.
“We want you here at a spot within a certain timing,” tight end T.J. Hockenson said of the Vikings offense, according to the NFL’s official website, “but on the other hand, J.J. is a playmaker. O’Connell wants us to get open.”
Hockenson then talked about what he sees in McCarthy.
“J.J. is a lot like (Matt Stafford) and a little like (Kirk Cousins),” Hockenson said. “Just depends on the routes and what we’re doing. ‘I want you here at this time, but on the same hand I want you to get open. I’m going to trust you.'”
Fans reacted to the bold proclamation on social media.
“And considering how much better Stafford was and is, compared to Cousins, is saying something,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“maybe even a hint of jared goff,” another fan added.
It will be interesting to see how McCarthy looks in his first full season of NFL action, but with the talented supporting cast around him, there’s no reason he can’t lead Minnesota to a deep playoff run.
