D’Aundre Holmes-Wilfork, son of Texans defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, has been dismissed from the University of Houston football team, after getting arrested on felony drug charges for allegedly getting caught with 381 grams of codeine.

The Houston Chronicle reports Houston cut Holmes-Wilfork almost immediately, releasing a statement announcing he was no longer with the program:

“We are aware of the situation and D’Aundre is no longer a part of the Houston Football program,” the statement reads.

Holmes-Wilfork didn’t appear in a game for Houston in 2016 after making the team as a walk-on. The Chronicle reports he faces a second-degree felony charge of possession of a controlled substance which is punishable by two-to-20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Codeine is used in cough medicines but is also used as a recreational drug. The combination of codeine, promethazine, and soft drinks is used for ‘purple drank’ which is a way to get high.

Holmes-Wilfork’s football career isn’t important when compared to the potential jail time he could face for the possession of that much codeine. The arrest might not just screw up his football career, but his entire life.

Wilfork hasn’t commented on his son’s arrest.
