Colin Kaepernick has spent the last few weeks trying to prove to NFL teams that he still deserves a shot at playing in the NFL. Former NFL quarterback and Hall of Famer Warren Moon doesn’t seem to be convinced it’s going to happen.
While Kaepernick has shared video of himself practicing with current NFL players and appears to look like he’s in great shape, Moon told TMZ Sports that he just doesn’t think this is a conversation that team owners want to have anymore.
There’s a lot of evidence to back that up. While the Seahawks were considered the most likely team to give Colin a chance, head coach Pete Carroll seemingly shot that down last week. Meanwhile, despite the fact that many NFL franchises currently need a veteran quarterback, no one appears to have made any overtures to the QB-turned-activist.
Moon did tell TMZ that he hopes the 34-year-old gets another shot, saying he believes the guy is “still a great athlete.” Unfortunately, this is one of those situations where it appears that athleticism and ability doesn’t matter compared to the PR blowback that would occur. And given that someone like Deshaun Watson was so chased after by multiple NFL teams, that’s a sad state of affairs.
