The Washington Commanders were known as the Washington Football Team after changing the franchise mascot from the “Redskins” in a move of respect for Native Americans and to help stop perpetuating racial stereotypes.

However, there are those in the fan base who would like the “Redskins” moniker to return, and while the franchise hasn’t gone that far, it did bring back some alternate logos that pay homage to its “Redskins” days.

Now, the franchise is going a step further and adding an alternate logo that does the same, according to Uniforms and design expert Zach Cohen.

Fans reacted to Cohen’s report and the new logo on social media.

“I think the W isn’t bad existing in the marketing but I’m sick of it as THE official logo. I want them to commit to the Greco-Roman theme they’ve been building in the past year and really lean onto the spear being our symbol,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“This is gonna look real nice on that black helmet with the black jerseys with burgundy numbers on them,” someone else added.

“It’s so sad how a billion dollar professional sports franchise can’t get this logo design right,” another fan added.

“I can confirm that if this is the logo … I will continue to wear my Redskins gear to the game and stand strong on my word to Never buy Commanders gear. If this is it, they didnt even make it hard for me,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how much further Washington leans into its past.
